During the PTCOG conference in Deauville in June 2026, the TaSeRnet consortium had the opportunity to present the outcomes of Work Package 2, which focused on the development of best practice recommendations for RTTs and dosimetrists in particle therapy.

Best practices developed by RTTs for RTTs

As part of the educational sessions preceding the conference, we showcased the structured methodology used to develop these best practices. Importantly, the recommendations were created by RTTs for RTTs. The process began with a comprehensive literature review, followed by a consensus-building phase and, finally, validation in clinical practice.

Our work highlighted several key findings:

• The importance of structured and comprehensive protocols to support RTTs in independent clinical decision-making.
• The value of RTTs as equal members of the multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to treatment plan evaluation and adaptation decisions.
• The crucial role of education in strengthening RTT expertise, ensuring safe and accurate treatment delivery, and ultimately improving patient care.

Insights from the European RTT Exchange Program

During the poster session, we also presented the outcomes of the European RTT Exchange Program organized within the TaSeRnet consortium. The results strongly reinforced the best practices previously established through the Delphi consensus process. Key themes included:

• The need for standardization of protocols, documentation, and communication.
• The importance of clear and effective information exchange between institutions and healthcare professionals.
• The need for standardized and continuous education for RTTs.
• Clear definition of roles, responsibilities, and escalation pathways.

When these elements are in place, RTTs are better equipped to take an active and autonomous role within the multidisciplinary team, leading to improvements in both treatment quality and patient care.

Next steps and future collaboration

Building on these best practices, Work Packages 3 and 4 are now focused on developing practical guidelines and advanced educational modules. These resources will be made available through the TaSeRnet website, so be sure to keep an eye on upcoming updates.
